PreACT 9 Secure measures skills students are building in English, math, reading, and optional science. It gives ninth graders an early look at college and career readiness and predicts a range for later PreACT and ACT scores.
English, math, and reading make up the Composite score. A school or district may also include science.

PreACT 9 Secure is designed for ninth-grade students. It measures English, math, and reading skills, with science available as an optional section, and gives students an early view of readiness before taking the ACT later in high school.
Its scores align with the ACT 1–36 scale, although the highest possible PreACT 9 score is 32. Student reports can also include a predicted ACT score range.

The assessment is built around skills and readiness at this point in high school.

Beginning with the spring 2026 blueprint, science is optional for PreACT 9 Secure. A school or district decides whether to administer it. Scorly includes science practice so students can prepare when their testing program uses that section.
